San Francisco Department of Public Health's mission is to protect and promote the health of all San Francisco citizens. It employs over 8,000 people and has a $2.1 billion budget.
The question of public health in San Francisco is under the microscope right now as the affordability, homelessness, Opoid, and mental health crises rock our City. To inherit this department in the midst of it all is no easy task. Come meet the man who's charged with protecting and promoting the health of all of us as a part of our local leader series.
About Dr. Grant Colfax:
Dr. Colfax is a Harvard College graduate who did his residency at UCSF, previously worked at SFDPH as Director of HIV Prevention and Research before leaving to join the Obama White House as the Director of National AIDS Policy. Previously he was the Director of Marin Health and Human Services. He assumed his new position in mid-February.
Mayor Breed said of Dr. Colfax: “He knows our city and its challenges, and he is ready to get to work. And he knows that we need to get to zero HIV infections in San Francisco.”
